Of Death and Being Thankful

Posted on at

Sometimes things don't work out.

You put in so much time and effort into something, pour out your heart even - on a job or a relationship, whatever it may be - and yet you get disappointing results. You cry out of sadness or frustration. You get angry. You might even feel helpless or hopeless.

But life wasn't meant to be a bed of roses. We will meet obstacles. We will undergo trials. We will get hurt now and then. But that shouldn't stop you from looking up and seeing the bright side of things. It's a matter of perspective, really.

You may have gained new skills and knowledge and learned the value of hard work while doing difficult assignments. You may have come out of a relationship stronger and wiser. One thing's for sure, you wouldn't be the same person anymore, and hopefully for the best.

So choose to be thankful.

Be thankful for that job even when you had to work extra hours. Many people are struggling to be employed and would love to be in your place. Be thankful that you've met all kinds of people, even the ones who've hurt you, for they've tested your character and it is refined in the process. What you lost may not have been what you needed. What is left may very well be the only thing that matters! As long as you're alive, there is hope.

And what of death? If I were to meet my wonderful Maker soon, then what should I fear? Now I'm smiling. I will enjoy life for it is good, and what comes after is even better.
