Pokémon Go: Things You Should Know Before Playing

Hi guys~! LookUp again here, let's forget for a while about Korean things :3 In this blog I will discuss a bit about the game that you may already heard it somewhere or maybe you've played it, called Pokémon Go. Since its launch, the game has attracted many smartphone users to play it, including me. So I will explain a little about Pokémon Go and some things in this game, which might be useful if you want to play Pokémon Go. Happy reading~!

Pokémon Go (stylized as Pokémon GO) is a free-to-play, location-based augmented reality game developed by Niantic for iOS and Android devices. It was initially released in selected countries in July 2016. In the game, players use a mobile device's GPS capability to locate, capture, battle, and train virtual creatures, called Pokémon, who appear on the screen as if they were in the same real-world location as the player. -wikipedia

Although now you can play Pokémon Go using a PC (Personal Computer) or a laptop with a few tricks and some software, but I do not recommend it. The next step is to install the Pokémon Go. You can download this game on PlayStore or other apps market. Because Pokémon Go has not been officially released across the country so maybe you will not find this game at PlayStore, but if you still want to play you can search this application in the search engines (Google, Yahoo, etc) and download it. You have to be careful when downloading Pokémon Go, make sure that it's safe for your device and download only from trusted sites. For the best experience in playing Pokémon Go, I recommend to use a smartphone that supports Augmented Reality (AR).

The Pokémon Go

OK, if you've finished installing it, start walking and let's explore the world of Pokémon Go~!

Remember to be alert at all times. Stay aware of your surroundings.

Before you run Pokémon Go, make sure the GPS is ON. Now open and begin to create your account, select an avatar and your name. Then, you will be asked to choose one of three Pokémon there. Choose Pokémon as you wish and catch it using Pokeball. To catch Pokémon just throw Pokeball at Pokémon's direction and automatically Pokémon will get caught, or you can watch video below:

Now start walking and make sure that your smartphone screen is always ON and when there are Pokémon around you, your smartphone will vibrate and there will be a sign on the screen. You might be confused what things should be done in Pokémon Go, below I will explain a bit about the things that exist in Pokémon Go and their functions, such PokéStop, Pokémon items, Pokémon gym, Pokémon egg, etc.

The PokéStop

When you walk around, then seeing the blue box on the screen and when you approach, it turns into a blue circle, it is called as PokéStop. PokéStop usually located in certain buildings such as museums, a gate, a unique place, a place of worship, etc. This is where you will get free items that are needed to play Pokémon Go. To get an items from PokéStop you must rotate the blue circle and some items will be falling. Items that you get will vary depending on your level, the following is a list of items that maybe you'll get from PokéStop:

  1.  Potion
A spray-type medicine for treating wounds. It restores the HP of one Pokémon by 20 points.
  2. Super Potion
A spray-type medicine for treating wounds. It restores the HP of one Pokémon by 50 points.
  3. Revive
A medicine that can revive fainted Pokémon . It also restores half of a fainted Pokémon's maximum HP
  4. Lucky Egg
A Lucky Egg that's filled with happiness! Earns double XP for 30 minutes.
  5. Poke Ball
A Device for catching wild Pokémon . It's thrown like a ball at a Pokémon , comfortably encapsulating its target.
  6. Lure Module
A module that attracts Pokémon to a PokéStop for 30 minutes. The effect benefits other people nearby.
  7. Razz Berry
Feed this to a Pokémon to make it easier to catch.
  8. Egg Incubator
A device that incubates an Egg as you walk until it is ready to hatch. Breaks after 3 uses.
  9. Incense
Upon activation, draws wild Pokémon towards the player at an accelerated rate for thirty minutes in real time.

You can get other items by raising your level.

The Pokémon Egg

Just like in Pokémon anime, in Pokémon Go you will also meet Pokémon egg that you can get from PokéStop. The difference is, to hatch Pokémon egg you need to use an Egg Incubator item and must walk in accordance with the type of Pokémon egg that you got. Pokémon egg were divided into three based on mileage to incubate the eggs: 2 km, 5 km, and 10 km. Suppose you have a 5 km Pokémon egg, so you have to walk 5 km to incubate the egg. Pokémon that you will get from Pokémon egg vary depending on the type of egg. The farther the distance, the rarer Pokémon you obtained.

The Pokémon Gym and Team

After reaching level 5, you will be prompted to choose to join one of the three existing teams. There are team Instinct, Mystic team, Team Valor. Each team has the respective color and legendary mascot. Team Instinct marked with yellow and Zapdos as its mascot, team Mystic marked with blue and Articuno as its mascot, team Valor marked with red and Moltres as a mascot. It's up to you, which team you want to join. The team you have chosen will determine which gym should be defended and which gym should be attacked.

Suppose you pick the teams Mystic, when you walking around and see a blue gym then you can train your Pokémon in the gym and fight with Pokémon who were there. If you have a Pokémon with high CP (Combat Power), you can join to defend your gym team with your Pokémon. And when you see a gym with yellow or red color you can seize the gym by defeating all the Pokémon that defend the gym. If there is a gym with white color, it means there is no team in possession of that gym. You can make that gym belongs to your team by putting your Pokémon to defend the gym.

The Pokémon Candy and Evolution

In Pokémon Go, you can evolve your Pokémon by using Pokémon candy. To evolve Pokémon , you need a certain amount of Pokémon candy ranging from 12 candies, 25 candies, 50 candies, and even up to 400 Pokémon candy (to evolve Magikarp into Gyarados). Every time you catch a Pokémon , you will get 3 Pokémon candy. You can also get a Pokémon candy by transferring your Pokémon to the professor, then he will give you one Pokémon candy. To transfer a Pokémon is easy, just choose Pokémon that you want to transfer and select Transfer option on the right corner menu. Another way to get the Pokémon candy is by incubating the eggs.

Besides to evolve, Pokémon candy is also useful to raise your Pokémon CP (Combat Power) and HP (Hit Points). However, to raise them, you also need a certain amount of stardust. You can get the stardust by catching Pokémon and hatching Pokémon egg.

In Pokémon Go there is also a feature called Pokémon Nearby that located in the lower right corner and will show you all the Pokémon near you.

So it can be concluded that the main goal in the Pokémon Go is to catch all kinds of Pokemon and complete the Pokédex, and also seize the opponent's gym and defend your own gym.

Pokémon Go is a fun game and can make healthier because you have to walk around to catch a Pokémon. Feel a different sensation when you managed to catch a rare Pokémon and beat your opponent. But keep in mind, remain cautious in playing Pokémon Go, avoid dangerous places and do not play when driving.

Actually there are a few things that I want to explain about Pokémon Go for novice players. But I think the above is enough, maybe I'll write a blog about Pokémon Go another time with a different topic.
