Progress in Women's Rights

Posted on at

Young girls in today's age are lucky because it is becoming more and more acceptable for them to be real women. From the Aerie Real campaign to the HelloFlo commercials and marketing, the world is being shown that being a girl isn't so bad, in fact, being a girl is beautiful. Being a woman is beautiful.

Now more than ever, women are standing together and refusing to be silenced. Angelina Jolie just held the largest ever anti-rape summit and has been recently made an honorary dame. Movie Stars and models are speaking out against photoshopping that make them look like unearthly beings. More women are starting to hold political office, more women are starting to enter fields like science and math where before they were almost condemned for joining.

While rape culture still exists, many people are starting to realize that rape is NEVER the victims fault no matter what she was wearing, where she was walking, what she had previously said, or any other ridiculous claims that only attempt to make it seem like rape is not a real issue and excuses a heinous crime towards women (although men are also targeted).

I am so excited to see how the world continues to progress especially when it comes to the rights of women and the way they are perceived by society. I am so excited to see what feminists and those who support our movement can make happen. So here's to a happier tomorrow.

Even if that sounds cheesy.
