Reflection to Gospel - August 10, 2014

Posted on at

Let's have a look on today's Gospel and how it reflects on our daily life.

Gospel: Mt 14:22–33
Immediately, Jesus obliged his disciples to get into the boat and go ahead of him to the other side, while he sent the crowd away.
And having sent the people away, he went up the mountain by himself, to pray. At nightfall, he was there alone. Meanwhile, the boat was very far from land, dangerously rocked by the waves, for the wind was against it.
At daybreak, Jesus came to them, walking on the sea. When they saw him walking on the sea, they were ter¬rified, thinking that it was a ghost. And they cried out in fear. 27 But at once, Jesus said to them, “Courage! Don’t be afraid. It’s me!” Peter answered, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.”
Jesus said to him, “Come!” And Peter got out of the boat, and walked on the water to go to Jesus. But seeing the strong wind, he was afraid, and began to sink; and he cried out, “Lord, save me!” Jesus immediately stretched out his hand and took hold of him, saying, “Man of little faith, why did you doubt?”
As they got into the boat, the wind dropped. Then those in the boat bowed down before Jesus, say¬ing, “Truly, you are the Son of God!”

Discussion and Reflection:

Today's Gospel is all about faith. At first, when they saw Jesus walking above water, they felt afraid and they thought that He is a ghost. They only believed when He commanded Peter to walked to Him in the water.  Often times, we tend not to believe in something unless not seeing it happen. From the story above, Peter walked also above water but when look at the high waves and felt the strong wind, he panicked and loses faith and started to fall. We can give example in our daily lives for example in relationship between partners, we easily fall to the temptation of a sexy woman or on another way a handsome guy. When you turn away from your partner, your good relationship will fall. We should focus on our goal. For example to a student who study his lesson before an exam, nowadays while they are studying, the television is on and they are still keep on texting, messaging or gaming. They easily fall asleep when they read their lessons but when the phone beeps, they easily get awaken. Students must focus first on their lessons before doing lots of stuffs. You can't do it at all. You can do it, but not with your full mind and heart. There are so many storms in life, just focus first on something before doing many things. But also, never look away to problems and have faith to the Lord. He is always with us.
