Self-examination has been most effective with breast cancers; 90 percent are first detected by the women themselves. As with all cancer, the earlier the detection, the better the patient's chance of survival.

All woman should carefully examine their breasts each month and immediately see a doctor if there is any change in shape or size, any lump or depression, puckering of the skin or unusual discharge from the nipples. Remember, the earlier the detection, the better the patient's chance of survival.
