Tastier than Lechon – Balamban Liempo

Posted on at

Ever gone to the Queen City of the South? If yes, ever gone to Balamban? Balamban Cebu is a 1st class municipality in the province of Cebu, Philippines. It is located about 64 kilometers from Cebu City and as easily accessible by good roads that are part of the Trans central highway. Part of its growing economy can be attributed to Tsuneishi Heavy Industries — a leading shipbuilding and ship repair company. Balamban caters a lot for tourist or even for our fellow kababayan.
One of the things Balamban had been famous of is their specialty which is the Balamban Liempo, which is famous for its line “Tastier than Lechon”. Liempo is a spanish word that means pork belly. It is a pork belly grilled like lechon with its skin that is very crunchy, there tender tasty meat and a lot of spices that will surely make your mouth water just by looking at it. It is yummy smelly that just by smelling the residue when it is cooked you can think of sitting down and erased your thought for a light diet. It is very much tasty that you sure want to have it with unlimited rice. It is best paired with “puso” one of Cebu’s specialty also. Puso is commonly known as hanging rice. One piece of Liempo costs Php 190 good for 4-5 persons or you can just have it all for yourself. I never knew such food existed not until I married my husband who is from Balamban.
The original Balamban Liempo is not the one with the franchise name “Balamban Liempo” the original recipe which is the first Liempo cooked in “Balamban style” is from “Johannes Liempo”. They are the maker of the original tasty liempo. I guess they have 1 branch located in Guadalupe Cebu City. I don’t know the exact location. But there is Mr. Google which is a little more helpful.
Whether you are on a diet or not on a diet, for curiosity sake, I surely recommend you to taste such finest delicacy. You don’t want to miss the exciting things happen when you have taste such good food.
