The Battle of Bosworth Field

Posted on at

On August 22nd 1485 the Battle of Bosworth Field was fought in England.

This battle was between the king, Richard III, of the House of York, and the Lancastrian leader Henry Tudor, Earl of Richmond.

This was the final battle of the conflict known as the Wars of the Roses between the Red Rose of Lancaster, and the White Rose of York, a civil war between the two rival branches of the House of Plantagenet that had been fought, off and on, primarily since 1455.

With the death of King Richard III, the victorious Henry Tudor took the throne as Henry VII of the House of Tudor, marrying the Elizabeth of York, the daughter of the Yorkist King Edward IV.
