The illogical basis of democracy

Posted on at

In logic, arguments that break first principles are often called fallacies. One fallacy in particular is called argumentum ad populum, or argument from popularity. What this fallacy does is say "this many people like A, so A is better than B" rather than actually showing how A is supposedly better than B. Now what would we get if we took this fallacious argument, and used it to decide the fate of a nation? Democracy. Democracy is simply an argument from popularity forced onto the people. Whether that popular subject is good or bad, moral or immoral, beneficial or detrimental to the people, the people must live with it. It is tyranny of the majority, where as long as 51% of people agree with you, you force your way of life onto others.
