THE KASHMIR DISPUTE

Posted on at

The creation of Pakistan was marvel in the history of the world bit it brought several problems in its wake. The 562 states of India were to give their consent about their future. Almost 500 states opted for India whereas the rest of them wanted to join Pakistan. However, the rulers of Kashmir, Manavadar and Juna Gadh wanted to join Pakistan because in these states the Muslims more of less dominated.

The Hindu ruler of Kashmir acceded to India whereas the 85% Muslim population wanted to join Pakistan. India sent its forces in Kashmir and forcibly occupied the state. Pakistan helped the Kashmir Mujahidin’s and result was that the situation became so grave that India had o take the matter to the United Nations which was of the view that plebiscite should be held in the occupied Kashmir.

India agreed to the resolution but soon it backed out of its promise and since then Kashmir has been a bone of contention between India and Pakistan. The two countries have fought three wars so as to settle the dispute of Kashmir but without any result. This status quo is not acceptable to Pakistan and it wants the matter to be decided as early as possible.

Pakistan in the view that it is the core issue and should be settles in order to make the region peaceful. On the other hand, India is fully aware of the fact that in case plebiscite is held in Kashmir, it will lose the game. That is why, it is reluctant to hold plebiscite in the state. The brave Kashmiri have been sacrificing their lives.
