Water Cress

Posted on at

I was able to buy and tried this seldom seen leafy vegetable that is grown in the water.I just cook it a while in boiling water and add some seasoning. I like its simple and plain raw smell.

Here are the pictures I took and a few I found in the site of "google".

These are the pictures I found in the web:

They are found in places where there are water.

The downside is they easily wither after taken out of the water, so it must be cook as soon as possible.

The ones I bought from the market in Sumilao, Bukidnon, about an hour ride from where I am was often not so fresh anymore. They look like these. I have to throw away more than half; but still I was able to enjoy the soup I made.

And look what I've found. Water cress can be also be used in salad, and in a delicious soup with tofu.

In the web, I found out that there are many kinds of water cress. They grow on soil and can be cultitvated in pots also!

Moreover, as I went on to search for more info, i found that water cress is a super food also. It has many benefits. It is good for the bones, the brain, the digestive system, the cardiovascular health among others. It may also prevent birth defect and depression because it is rich in folate.

Looking at the pictures, I also learned that there are other varieties of water which look better that the ones I bought. They look more healthy and fresher.

Bottom line: It is right to choose the foods designed for us by the Great Creator.

Whatever you eat that grows from the soil and taken from the nature without undergoing any processing, it is good for us. Whether you know or not what it is good for, when you eat them, your body will receive the benefits; and you will grow healthier.

Make it a habit to know and to learn more about the foods that are good for health and make them part of your daily diet..

It sure will do you and your family much good.
