What is Migraine? Its causes and treatment

A migraine is one of the rapidly increasing disorders. In this article, I am going to figure out everything about a migraine. You are going to read the symptoms and causes of a migraine. I am also going to put the treatment for a migraine that might help you if you are suffering from the same problem.

What is Migraine?

"A migraine is a primary headache disorder characterized by recurrent headaches that are moderate to severe. Typically, the headaches affect one half of the head, are pulsating in nature, and last from two to 72 hours. Associated symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light, sound, or smell."

A migraine is severe, throbbing painful headaches. It causes pulsing sensations on one side of the head. The person feels vibrations on its head. Migraine attacks are so painful and it lasts for hours and days. Sometimes the person feels disable because of that throbbing pain. During a migraine attack, the patient feels irritation in light and sound. It is often accompanied by vomiting and nausea.

People mostly mix a migraine and headache but there is a hell of a difference between both of these. You must be thinking of how to differentiate between both. Don’t worry I will explain it.

You can easily differentiate between a migraine and headache by yourself. The only thing you need to do is to observe symptoms and pattern. Here are some points that will help you:

  • If you are having headache continuously at a specific time on one side of your head it is a migraine.
  • If your headache lasts for 3-5 hours a day, it is a migraine.
  • If you are having vomiting and nausea with a headache it’s a confirmation of a migraine.
  • If intense light and sound are not bearable for you, you are having a migraine.
  • If all these symptoms are lying in a person, he /she are suffering from a migraine.

The root cause of a migraine is still unknown. The reason for a migraine is not understandable. It is supposed that a migraine is because of some uneven activity in the brain. The pathway between blood vessels and brain get affected which cause a migraine. Sometimes it is also inherited. A person whose parents are having a migraine is more likely to adopt it. There is no any confirmed cause or reason of a migraine.

There is no any specific age for getting a migraine, it can occur at any age. A student, a housewife, a businessman etc. anyone can get a migraine at any age. But, women are more likely to get a migraine instead of men.

 

Causes of a migraine generation

There are certain things that might set off a migraine. Some of them are:

From childhood to old age, women go through many hormonal changes. Variation in estrogen is a big cause of a migraine in women. Some women went through a migraine in adult age because of hormonal changes.

Migraine risk also increases during pregnancy also. Women often take some medicines that might be a big cause of setting of migraines.

Drinks and Alcohol

Alcohol is one of the biggest friends of migraines. Alcohol helps in setting off a migraine. Beside that caffeinated drinks also help in regulating migraine. Try to stay away from these types of drinks.

Change in sleeping schedule

If you suddenly change your sleeping pattern abruptly it will help in triggering a migraine. Sleeping too much and sleeplessness both lead towards a migraine.

Taking too much stress

Some people might get disturbed due to personal or professional reasons. They start taking too much stress of work or studies that triggers a migraine.

All these and some other factors help in regulating migraine. Avoiding these factors might help you in reducing the pain of a migraine.

But how to treat a migraine?  It can be cured properly with medications and home remedies also. Treating migraine is a big issue indeed but no worry, I have a solution. Below here are some tips that will help you fight against a migraine. But besides that medication is also much important, don’t forget to consult a doctor.

Treatment of a migraine is impossible without specialist but following some tips help you in reducing the intensity of migraines.  Changing routine and habits will benefit you.

Sleep well

Choose a dark and quiet room for sleeping so that you can feel well. Instead of waking up for long hours, lay down on your bed and try to take a sound sleep. A relaxed mind and body will help you fight against migraines.

Getting physical exercise daily

Regular workouts and exercise are not only beneficial for a migraine rather it is essential for a healthy body. Go for workouts regularly that will give you energy for fighting migraines. Regular exercises prevent headaches. All your stress went out after doing exercise and you will feel much better.

Use dark green vegetables

Magnesium is used for the prevention of migraines. It is mostly found in green vegetables and nuts. It is not beneficial in reducing pain rather it is helpful in preventing headaches. It is also available in tablets; you can also take magnesium pills.

Vitamin B2

Vitamin B2 also called as riboflavin is beneficial for all the patients with a migraine. It will help you fight against a migraine and slowly reduce the intensity of headaches. It is found in fish, chicken, milk and cheese. Use these products in your diet daily for getting rid of migraines. It is also present in the form of pills.

Control your diet

Sometimes you diet cause you severe migraines. Observe you diet and see what cause you pain and try to avoid that meal. Some common food items that are causing migraines in the majority are:

  •  Food additives
  • Red wine
  • Chocolate
  • Old cheese etc.

Eliminate this type of food from your diet so that migraine can be cured.

At this time I just know only these tips for treating migraines. I hope these tips might help you in fighting migraines. Beside that also use your medicines regularly for complete treatment.
