Why SLEEP is Important and its Surprising HEALTH BENEFITS

Posted on at

This is my very first blog on this site, I’m inspired by the people from the bitLanders LEADERBOARD (including my dad TRB) who writes a good blog frequently. I actually love to read and read blogs but I’m too hesitant to start writing my own blog when in fact I have tons of photos in food and travel taken with only my phone camera which has to be something fun and interesting to write about but i'm thinking to write it soon here. I’m writing early in the morning to freshen up the mind.. Hope you’ll find time to read it

IMPORTANCE OF SLEEP

Most people tend to have insufficient sleep due to their everyday tasks, obligations at work,  lots of requirements at school and studying lessons for upcoming examination week for students, other people are staying late at night to watch their favorite movies or reading novel books or merely just browsing the net through their smart phones (and that include myself, I do it most of the time).

But I believe people need to know how getting a good night’s sleep is very essential to our health. So today I have researched on Google some of the important things to know regarding a good sleep that has a number of benefits more than just getting rid of your eyebags. I’ve listed below the benefits it brings to us including important facts; statements/studies from various authors and researchers to make it more scientific and or accurate So let’s get started now.

1.)    For your skin's health

Sufficient sleep you got from last night have impact on your skin's health. While you're sleeping the body's hydration rebalances according to the medical field. You’ll get fewer wrinkles, a glowing complexion and brighter, less puffy eyes (no eyebags!). Your skin's beauty will naturally glow when you take beauty rest. Here are some statement regarding the effects of sleep to your skin:

"Poor sleep can lead to increased stress hormones in the body that increase the severity of inflammatory skin conditions such as acne or psoriasis,” explains Jessica Krant, MD, MPH, assistant clinical professor of dermatology at SUNY Downstate Medical Center and founder of Art of Dermatology in New York.

“A good night's sleep can mean good skin health because when you’re sleep-deprived, your body makes more of the stress hormone cortisol. Elevated levels of cortisol can lead to increased stress and inflammation in the body, hurting your skin’s quality. Says author Karen Appold of Everdyday Health which is Medically Reviewed by Niya Jones, MD, MPH

Insufficient sleep will probably produce stress hormones leading to skin conditions you won’t like. So better have a beauty rest, always take care of your skin not just for beauty purposes but because it is the barrier to our body from foreign substances like bacteria and viruses that results to common health or skin diseases today, we should protect them to protect us in return. Have a good sleep for your skin.

2.)    Helps in Memory function

A good sleep is also necessary for proper memory function. It will help open up your subconscious, can integrate new knowledge and it allows you to remember your inner/bedtime thoughts which promotes creative thinking. Researchers at Harvard University and Boston College found that “people seem to strengthen the emotional components of a memory during sleep, which may help spur the creative process.”

Normally your mind is fresh after getting a good sleep, you can be better with your art works like painting and calligraphy (I love calligraphy so much) if you have a well rest brain. It also helps in recalling the lessons you’ve studied right before your examination day. An alert brain will keep us focused on things for new learning. So remember to balance study time and good sleep if you want to get an A grade. Sleep well and aim high!

“The first reports of sleep’s positive effect on memory date back to 1924, when researchers taught people nonsense syllables and tested them hours later. Subjects who got some shut-eye before testing were better at remembering than those who had stayed awake. In 1973, scientists found that people were better at recalling newly-learned word-pairs if they had slept during the first half of the night.”

3.)    For preventing serious health conditions such as heart diseases

Studies shows insufficient sleep can lead to some serious problems. Not just heart diseases but diabetes, obesity and etc too. I just stated here heart conditions because it is one of the condition which affects the mortality rate in our country I mean it caused the mortality rate to goes high; according to reports, the top deaths are cause by cardiovascular diseases here in the Philippines.

“Inflammation is linked to heart disease, stroke, diabetes, arthritis, and premature aging. Research indicates that people who get less sleep—six or fewer hours a night—have higher blood levels of inflammatory proteins than those who get more.

A 2010 study found that C-reactive protein, which is associated with heart attack risk, was higher in people who got six or fewer hours of sleep a night.”

Who would like bad health conditions from insufficient sleep, we better prevent these. Get enough sleep and take care of your health, it is our gem.

4.)   It can help you lose weight

Researchers at the University of Chicago found that dieters who were well rested lost more fat—56% of their weight loss—than those who were sleep deprived, who lost more muscle mass. (They shed similar amounts of total weight regardless of sleep.)

Dieters in the study also felt more hungry when they got less sleep.

So if you’re planning to lose weight or keeping fit consider not just a balanced diet with nutritious foods, daily exercise but include adequate sleep too. It helps ;)

I know there are still a lot of benefits of sleep which are not mentioned here.   Those mentioned above are just to name a few. This is how important sufficient sleep is, it is a key essential to a healthy lifestyle; this is like a natural way to have a glowing skin, good health by preventing diseases acquired from insufficient sleep and good memory. Sleep for at least 8 hours a day; get sufficient sleep always, don’t deprive yourself, A good sleep makes you feel good so spend more time in bed and wake up to these benefits.
