James Hetfield Talks About “Metallica: Through the Never”

Uploaded on Thursday 26 September 2013

DESCRIPTION

I thoroughly enjoyed talking to James Hetfield, lead singer, co-founder, main songwriter, and lyricist of the iconic American rock group Metallica. Fresh from the success of their thoroughly engaging documentary, “Some Kind of Monster,” they are back with the concert-documentary “Metallica: Through the Never,” with the title taken from the band’s 1991 self-titled album.

Directed by Nimrod Antal (“Kontroll,” “Vacancy,” “Armored,” “Predators”), the quasi-narrative movie follows a young roadie named Trip (Dane DeHaan, the up and coming actor from “Chronicle,” “Lawless,” “Lincoln,” “The Place Beyond the Pines,” “The Amazing Spider-Man 2”) and his surreal adventure with footage from various Metallica concerts as a rockin’ backdrop.

Truth be told, forget about Justin Bieber or One Direction, this is the concert documentary to watch! Hetfield, drummer Lars Ulrich, lead guitarist Kirk Hammett, and bassist Robert Trujillo is a boy band, according to Hetfield.

In this interview, we talked about:

*** What’s the genesis of “Metallica: Through the Never”)
*** Working with Nimrod Antal
*** Working with Dane DeHaan
*** Who came up with the concept of the movie?
*** As a Filipino, I gave a shout-out to Hammett who is part Filipino – that good, old Filipino gene
*** Yes, I can’t help but ask him about “twerking”
*** Will they visit Palm Springs for our annual Coachella Valley Music Festival?
*** What about the Palm Springs International Film Festival?
