The blaugrana creates one goal and scores another against the Dutch with Fatih Terim's side still in with a chance of making it to Euro 2016
Vermaelen and Belgium overcome Cyprus 1-0 away from home but Ivan Rakitic and Croatia lose 2-0 in Norway and lose top spot in their group.
An assist and a goal was Arda Turan’s contribution to Turkey’s 3-0 win over Holland in group A on Sunday. The victory puts Fatih Terim’s side into third place in the standings and in with chance of claiming a play off place for the Euro 2016 finals to be played in France next summer.
Turan may not be able to play for Barça until January of next year but in Turkey’s home game against the Dutch, it took him just eight minutes to conjure up the opening goal with an assist for team mate Oğuzhan Özyakup. The midfielder’s impressive display continued when he scored the second for his team. Turan won the ball in midfield and then waltzed past Daley Blind before beating keeper Jasper Cillessen at the near post. The blaugrana summer signing was substituted just before the hour mark and Burak Yilmaz completed the victory with a third just four minutes from time. The win takes Turkey above the Netherlands in group A with Danny Blind’s team now in danger of missing out altogether on Euro 2016.
Victory for Belgium, defeat for Croatia
Thomas Vermaelen played all 90 minutes of Belgium's 1-0 win in Cyprus. A goal in the 86th minute from Eden Hazard means that the Barça defender and his team mates need just a win in their next match at home to Andorra on 10 October to secure a place in Euro 2016. After drawing with Azerbaijan on Friday, Ivan Rakitic and Croatia lost 2-0 away to Norway on Sunday and as a result drop to third in Group H behind the Norwegians and Italy.
