Bruce Lee (his real Chinese name: 李振藩; pinyin: Lǐ Zhènfān, Cantonese Jyutping: Lei⁵ Zan³faan⁴ Junfan Lee in Mandarin, Cantonese), Chinese stage name "Li Xiao-Long" (simplified Chinese: 李小龙, traditional Chinese: 李小龍 , pinyin: Lǐ Xiǎolóng; Wade: Li³ Xiao³long², Cantonese Jyutping: Lee⁵ Siu²lung⁴), born in Chinatown in San Francisco in the United States November 27, 1940 and died of a cerebral edema in Hong Kong (British colony in time) July 20, 1973, is a martial artist, director, actor, producer, writer and philosopher Chinese-American. Alongside his acting career, he created his own martial art, Jeet kune do. He is considered the greatest martial artist in the world cinema of the twentieth century and paved the way for other Chinese actors like Jackie Chan, Jet Li or foreigners like Jean-Claude Van Damme, Steven Seagal and Chuck Norris. For his contributions to film and television, Bruce Lee embodies for many the strong man reaching the top of physical perfection and invincibility in unarmed combat. His fame has had a significant role in the interest of the Western public to the Chinese martial arts. His tragic and untimely death has helped get him into the legend of cinema and martial arts
