New Things and Information for Pokemon Go Generation 2

Posted on at

Finally, Pokémon Go Generation 2 Update apparently rolled out on 12 am of February 17. This means that Pokemon Go players who launched the game on the said date have been prompted to update the version of their Pokémon Go app. The Generation 2 update is what yours truly consider as a forced update since it is impossible to continue, or the Pokemon game will not open until the user updated the app. As can be seen in the screenshot below, the update prompt appears upon initialization.

At this point some readers are probably over excited (ecstatic even) as rumors of Pokemon Go Gen Two Information Update has been in circulation for the past few months. This hot topic has been talked about in social media outlets andhas been discussed in different online forum or groups. Needless to say, avid loyal Pokémon Go players (like myself) are kept awake at night – guessing and speculating what could the new Generation 2 update could offer.

Well, here's the good news – excited Pokémon Go game players can now breath a sigh of relief as this blog will contain actual and awesome information about the Generation 2 update. The info within this blog is based on first hand experience of exhaustively playing Pokémon Go since the game's Gen 2 update rolled out last last week – and yes folks, yours truly played with dedication despite the severe server lag that was seemingly brought about by the massive influx of all kinds of Pokémon Go players (returning, new, and those that did not stop playing – obviously, I belong to that last group).

Anyway, without further ado, let us now check out all the nifty aspects Pokémon GO Generation 2 has in store to its millions of fans.

Never short on announcement

You can always give credit to Niantic when informing uses about the update. They never seem to fell short when something new is about to come. Am not sure about other countries or regions, but here in Philippines, Pokemon Go users are usually kept abreast via email, SMS, and even In-app notifications.

As for the email, this is exactly the reason why I have a dedicated folder for Pokémon Go information and stuffs. My email settings are configured that whenever an email received in relation to Pokemon, it will divert directly to that folder. It would be a good idea this so that all those important emails and updates will not mix with sea of emails one usually receives (much worse, if it goes to Spam).

Additionally, I am not entirely sure if Niantic Labs have a partnership with Globe Telecoms – one of the major / biggest telecommunications in the country. This is because from time to time, one will receive a text message about Pokémon Go events and updates – interestingly enough, some are cool announcements that are definitely cannot be dismissed.

NEW Pokémon Species

Let us now go to the juicy part – introduction of new species. Since the original Pokémon Go was released sometime in the middle of last year, the mobile game took the world by storm. However, let’s face (or rather admit it), once a player have acquired majority of the Pokemon species available in their region for their Pokédex, interest seem to wane. And this is especially true after seeing that some players have illegally obtained legendary or region-specific Pokemon species – whatever interest these players have apparently vanished.

Thanks to Pokemon Go Generation 2 information, players’ interest in the game rekindled. One of the main reasons is because the number of species to capture has almost doubled from the original release. As can be seen in the photos below, new Pokémon species from the Johto region are now available for capture in the Pokémon Go mobile game.

All the Pokémons in the above photos are the ones that I have already captured for Generation 2 Pokemon game. Some of these new species are common. When I say common, their rate of appearance can likened to that of Pidgeys or Ratatas. It is not that I am complaining or anything, but given that there are still a number of slots to be filled up in the Pokédex, it would be quite nice for species other than Wooper, Ledyba, etc... to appear – especially, since I have Lure Module and Incense activated.

NEW Pokémon Items

I am still mulling if I would be joyed to see the introduction of new items in the Pokémon Go Generation 2 update. I mean the cool factor was there for sure upon seeing the new items – unfortunately, after reading their description and purpose, I am just glad or happy about only two items (Max Potion and Banana).

1. Max Potion

Let me start with the Pokemon informationitem that I am happy to see – the Max Potion. I classify this as one of the best new items in the Generation two update. As can be remembered before the update, there are various type of potions. Each type will heal a certain amount of health points (Potion will 20 points, 50 points for Super Potion, etc...)

In the latest update, the Max Potion will restore the full HP of the Pokemon. Of course, when the player's item inventory will be nearing its limit, and he or she will have to discard some of the items, it will only make sense to leave the one that will fully restore the Pokémon's life points (why would anyone choose the smaller one over the Max Potion when it can fully heal up the Pokemon after a battle).

2. The Pinap Berry

As can be seen in the above photo, the Pineapple looking fruit is simply called Pinap Berry. This might be due to the long name length of the word Pineapple that it will not fit in the mobile screen of the app.

Anyway, the Pinap berry is actually a great addition to the Pokemon game. All players know that certain type of Pokémons need a specific amount of candies to evolve to their next form. Unfortunately, getting Pokemon candies is not that relatively easy to come by in the Pokemon Go game. One will have to capture a Pokémon (which will give three candies) or use that specific Pokémon as a buddy (which will give one candy for every one, three, or five kilometers of walking depending on the Pokémon).

With the Pinap Berry, a capture Pokemon will give or will drop out two additional candies. This is great news for any players who wanted to get more candies but the Pokemon does not appear in the wild that often.

The Nanab Berry

As can be clearly seen on its naming convention, Nanab is banana spelled backwards (the Pokémon Go game seems to have a knack for this). This new item's main purpose is to calm down Pokemons if it is behaving erratically. Many players may have surely noticed it by now, but for those who don't, Pokemons now have more movement sequence after the game's Generation 2 update. If before the update, Pokémons only has the attacking sequence (and flying sequence for Flying Type Pokemons), in the Generation 2 update of the game – Pokemons can now move horizontally in the device's screen (all over the place if it is a Flying Type Pokémon).

Sadly, I don't have much use for this particular item. This is because I can catch Pokemons with relatively ease (and using only a regular Poké ball on top of that). And if I really wanted to capture a Pokemon, I would rather use a Great Ball and Razz Berry tandem.

Evolution Items

In Pokemon Go Generation 2 update, certain Pokemons can now be evolved but with the use of special items. So far, I have seen three new items that can be used for the special evolution of specific Pokemons. Needless to say, these new items brought with it cool and fun factors. Sadly, since the new items are randomly dropped from Poké Stops (at a seemingly rare rate), it just dwindles away the fun and cool factors.

New In-Game Style Options

The game's Style options seem to have also changed. Aside from the obvious visual layout, Players now also have more clothing selections to choose from. This would have been awesomely cool, unfortunately, some of the new selections can only be used for a cost while there are those that can only be equipped if then user reached certain levels.

Although, yours truly understands that this has to be done (it has something to do obviously with the financial aspect), but since the Pokémon Game before the update offers all of these for free, the extra cost and level requirement may rub some people the wrong way with this new game information.

Well that's basically it for this Pokémon Go Generation Update review. Stay tuned for more Pokemon Go related post's. I'll end this post with three cool things, namely – (1) a link of my other Pokémon Go post here in bitLanders, (2) an awesome Pokemon Go Video, and (3) a futuristic interactive chat where you can input your cool opinions regarding awesome mobile games on cellphones.
