Ben began making films at 18, creating four self-funded short films that served as his unofficial film schooling: TERRITORY (1999), ECHOES... (1999), DEMON (2000) and THE CLOCK (2000). DEMON screened at the 2000 Portobello Film Festival in the UK.

In 2001, Ben created production house DIGICOSM and produced three self funded feature films: BREAKING POINT (2001), GUARDIAN (2002) and PARALLELS (2005). GUARDIAN was unveiled in 2002 to much fanfare and media coverage with its two-night world premiere in Adelaide attracting an audience of 1,000 people. PARALLELS won the UK Asian News Cinema Award for Best Sci-Fi/Horror Film in 2005, awarded at the Cannes Film Festival. PARALLELS is currently available for sale on Film Annex.

Ben subsequently entered in to a joint venture with FILM ANNEX to run the web television channels DIGICOSM TV and FOOD DISCOVERIES TV. Ben has produced and directed a variety of content for both web television channels.

In 2008, Ben created the new production company SMALL WAVE FILMS with the focus on producing content for new digital media platforms. The first film produced was the dramatic short SAMARITAN (2008). The second film GFC: GUNPOINT FINANCE CREDITOR (2009) won the WAR OF FILMS Competition for April 2010, and was selected for screening at the 2010 Firstglance Online Short Contest. The company also represents SHORE STORIES: TALES OF A KIOSK (2009), a 22-minute documentary Ben co-directed with colleague and actor Colin MacPherson.

Ben has completed two new short films THE MONSTER IN THE RIVER and TRIAL 159.

Ben currently co-hosts with film colleague Stephan Kern the weekly vodcast FiST Chat which features discussions on the topics of film, science and technology.
