A ghost town is an abandoned village, town or city, usually one which contains substantial visible remains. A town often becomes a ghost town because the economic activity that supported it has failed, or due to natural or human-caused disasters such as floods, government actions, uncontrolled lawlessness, war, or nuclear disasters.

1. Pripyat, Ukraine

An abandoned city in northern Ukraine, near the border with Belarus. Pripyat was founded in 1970, for the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. It had grown to a population of 49,360 before being vacated a few days after the 26 April 1986 Chernobyl disaster. Because of the radiation, the city cannot be repopulated and remains abandoned today
