World records have their own importance, it showcase top talents and best of anything in the world. Pakistan holds many world records, some of them are made with efforts and some are simply nature's gift to the country. Recently, Pakistan's government officially made several attempts to make some world records and successfully made many such records. However, purpose of this article is to show you natural world records of Pakistan.

1- Largest Canal Based Irrigation System

Pakistan is proud owner of world's largest canal based irrigation system. It was designed and built by initially British government before partition some hundred years back however Pakistan's government expanded the design in 1960s. Since then, there are no major expansions but its still world's largest canal system. This canal based irrigation system depends exclusively on the Indus River and is mainly used in agriculture sector.

 

2- Largest Glacier

Gilgit-Baltistan, popularly known as Northern Pakistan, is blessed with scenic mountainous beauty. This area attracts millions of local and thousands of International tourists every year. K2, the world's second tallest mountain, falls in this area. The extreme northeastern part of Pakistan is host to the Karakoram, which have the world’s biggest permanent mass of snow and ice (Glacier) outside the poles.

 

3- Biggest Mountain Face

Nanga Parbat, one of the tallest mountains in the world boasts the biggest mountain face in the world. The south face of this magnificent beauty rises up to 4600 meters from the base of the mountain. Nanga Parbat also has the deepest gorge in the world in its north face.

 

4- World's Tallest Cliff

While trekking up the K2, Trango Towers are encountered along the way. They are so tall and straight that it seems they guard the mighty glaciers. One of them is called the Grand Trango, that Grand Tango has the world's greatest and almost vertical drop of almost 1400 meters. This attracts tourists who like extreme sports like rock climbing, base jumping etc.

 

5- Biggest Salt Mine

Khewra Salt Mine is world's second largest salt mine and country's biggest. Some half a million people visit the mine every year. Its history dates back to its discovery by Alexander's troops in 320 BC, but it started trading in the Mughal era. Main tunnel of the mine was designed by Dr. H. Warth, a mining engineer, in 1872 during British rule. It produces 400,000 tons of salt every year and has estimated 82 to 600 million tons of salt.

There are many attractions designed in the mine such as mosque, artistic carvings in the mine include a replica of Minar-e-Pakistan, a statue of Allama Iqbal, an accumulation of crystals that form the name of Muhammad in Urdu script, a model of the Great Wall of China.
