There are two kinds of people out there. The ones who are great at applying eyeliner (liquid or otherwise) and the ones who truly struggle. If you fall into that second camp, don’t worry one bit – you aren’t alone! The struggle is definitely real. Here’s the thing: knowing how is half the battle and with a few tips and tricks you just may find yourself crossing over to the other side. From breaking out the scotch tape when needed to cheating with a little pencil liner first, here are a few tips for perfecting liquid liner and even mastering a killer cat eye.

8 Tips for Perfecting Your Liquid Liner

#1. Go ahead: use a pencil liner first to create a light line. This gives the perfect guide for tracing over with your dark, liquid liner.

#2. If your line is still all over the place – just dip a cotton swab in petroleum jelly and wipe away the excess. (no biggie – you got this!)

#3. If you want that perfect little flick, use a business card as your guide – it’s the perfect size. Also, draw toward your eye rather than away from it to get the exact length you’re after.

#4. Still afraid of the liquid liner? Make your own by dipping a liner brush in water and then in eye shadow for a liquid eyeliner look that’s easy to remove.

#5. Rather than going right for a line, draw dots across your lid where you want the line to be. Then, connect the dots to make one line.

#6. If you feel like your eyelids sort of hide eyeliner, use the liquid liner to draw a thick arch above your lash line. Fill it in (it will look a little thicker than you think it should), when you open your eyes – you’ll have the perfect line.

#7. Want to go cat eye? Try using the edge of a spoon as a guide to create that flawless wing. Need a little more guidance than that? Align scotch tape as the perfect guide for applying your liquid liner. Just apply the tape against your bottom lash at an upward angle and use the edge of the tape as your guide. Peel it off and you’re good to go!

#8. Go for a more natural look (with similar effects) by opting for brown liner instead of black – it’s also great to practice with!

Now that you know the tricks of the trade, all you need is the perfect liquid liner. Motives® Luxe Precision Eye Line comes in both chocolate brown and black. It’s easy to use and will work flawlessly with the new tips you learned above. What are you waiting for?
