9 Inspiring Mantras to Live By

Posted on at

Life has its difficult moments for each person. There are so many important things that you must keep in line, and important facts to remember, the list can go on and on. The feeling of overwhelming pressure or weight caused by the entirety of the world can weigh on a person.  a mantra of happiness can help one sustain a positive attitude.

Mantra #1- “Carpe Diem” or “Seize the Day”

It may be cliché at first glance, but there is no reason not to follow the credo of “Seize the Day.” The day is yours to be handled in whatever way you decide. Making the decision to “take life by its horns” and give it all you have got is likely the best way to live one’s life.

Carpe Diem does not mean one has to run through life with reckless abandon. It only means to take note of the possibilities that are forever around you, and take the ones that peak your interest. With that, philosophy repeated on a daily basis, you are much more likely to take that chance you may otherwise would not.

Mantra #2- “Don’t Worry, Be Happy”

It is rare to find a person who has not fall victim to the pointless frustration an average day can bring. Whether it is a traffic jam or a loud neighbor, we can forget that we need not let exterior forces affect our mood. Thankfully, for all of us, Mr. Bobby McFerrin came up with a simple and delightful song that underlines the strategy to overcoming this problem.

“Don’t Worry, Be Happy” is a mantra that can help one tackle every level of obstacle in life. The choice of being happy always trumps all other emotions.

Mantra #3- “Anticipate the Difficult by Managing the Easy”

This mantra may seem more like a directive rather than a road to happiness. However, Lao Tzu’s quote reminds us the path to weathering storms is preparing for them. By keeping this mantra in mind, one is capable of avoiding difficulty, and possible frustration or agony, later. Happiness is found in a life that does not involve constant stress. Managing the small things means having more opportunity to remain happy.

Mantra #4- “This Too Shall Pass”

For anyone who has battled hardship, “This too shall pass” is a mantra that will build happiness within turmoil. Though it may be difficult in a time of woe or anger, the mantra has little use outside of a specific necessity. When trouble hits and feels unbearable, remember, “This too shall pass.”

Mantra #5- “Sometimes You’ve Gotta Let Go”

Another specific mantra for a specific purpose, this mantra is obviously for when life is bugging you. Sometimes, when you have something stuck in your craw, you’ve just gotta let go. By learning to let go, it saves your energy for more important things, like being happy.

Mantra #6- “Life is Too Damn Short”

While this mantra may seem a bit pessimistic, for the worrywarts out there, there is likely no better mantra. If you are someone who gets caught up in the details and forgets to enjoy the life that is passing you by, then keep this mantra in mind. Life may seem long at times, but it is truly too short to waste on endless details.

Mantra #7- “Comparison is the Thief of Joy”

Again, this mantra may seem pessimistic to some. However, for those who are constantly wishing they had more/better things, perhaps this mantra may save them. Enjoy things for what they are, not for what they could be or for what others are. By enjoying what is in front of you, you find happiness in what is.

Mantra #8- “I Am That I Am”

A much more mantratic version of “I think, therefore I am”, the phrase “I am that I am” not only is a great mantra, but also sounds good. It is a saying that can be repeated continuously to elicit a sort of meditative state, or simply to sooth a troubled mind. The mantra points to a singularity of existence. We are, only as much as we do exist. Our identity often becomes tangled up in what we have done, what we wear, whom we converse with, and so forth. In reality, our existence defines us, and everything else is superfluous footnotes in a book that is not being written.

Mantra #9- “I Am What I Am”

While you may think this is a rehashing of an earlier quote, “I am what I am” has a very distinctive meaning. Certainly, you cannot be something that you are not. By accepting you are you, you must immediately accept yourself. In acceptance, you will find happiness.
