ABC for Calamities

      Calamity is defined as a state of deep distress or misery caused by major misfortune or Loss. This definition was taken from www.merriam.webster.com/dictionary/calamity. These results to damages of houses, buildings, agriculture and infrastructures which cost multimillion money. But what hurts most are the lost lives of our loved ones. We cannot avoid this to happen however we can some what lessen its effect. According to John Rey Portal, below are some tips - the ABc of Calamities, that might help each one of us:

      A - Always be alert. Be aware of what is happening around you. By watching television, listening to the radio, using cellphones or other modern gadgets to communicate with other people or through internet connections to know the latest news. In this times of black scenarios, charged batteries are in great help.

     Assist one another. Remember that no man is an island. We need each other especially in times of difficulties. Extend help to those who are in need by sharing whatever you have.

     Always have survival kit. This kit contains medicines, water, canned goods, flashlights and other things which you can easily carry. This will help you survive for a few days during the calamity.

     B - Be calm. Do not panic. Because if you do, it does not bring you good results. Instead it is more likely to get you into an accident. Therefore, you should know how to control your feelings and emotions.

      Be brave. Face the danger and difficulty overcoming your fear. Keep in mind, that trials are made to make us stronger. Don't give up easily.

     Be resilient. Have a heart of resiliency. Learn to stand up after you fall. Have the courage to move on.

      C - Cooperate with persons in authority. If they tell you to evacuate, obey them. They are looking after your safety. Do not think of the material things left at home; think of your life.

     Call to GOD. We should maintain our communication to God whether in good times or bad times. Nothing is impossible with Him. After all, prayer is the most powerful armor against trials.

     No one is excluded when calamities occur. Everybody is affected with it. The only difference is our attitude towards calamity. Do remember the ABC for calamity.
