all about versailles

  • The Alcoholic- well, perhaps not quite that far, but Yuki loves a drink or three, claims to drink almost every day, and has admitted to being disappointed if he gets chosen as the Designated Driver.
  •   Author Existence Failure - Jasmine's sudden death in 2009, just as Versailles' musical career  was really kicking off.
  •  Beyond the Impossible - Jasmine's stage costumes, with their refreshingly old-school OTT-ness.
  • Character Tics - Hizaki is known for rapidly and repeatedly jerking his head around whilst playing guitar.
  • Comic Relief - Jasmine You had a habit of providing this in almost every interview. If he wasn't claiming to be an alien he was pretending to not understand Japanese, or acting out a random skit with the band member next to him. At the very least he'd be mimicking Kamijo's gestures. He also sometimes performed magic tricks on stage.
  • Companion Cube - Contrary to popular belief, there are not three members of Hizaki Grace Project in Versailles, there are four- Hizaki, Teru, Jasmine You and Elmo. OK, so all that last one does is assault Hizaki and have it's wicked way with toy Pandas, and it's probably no good with instruments, but it's been around for so long it may as well be the official mascot!
  • Concept Video - The Revenant Choir. Also Ascendead Master, but that only really makes sense if you watch the fifteen minute short film the band made to accompany it.
  • Dude Looks Like a Lady - Hizaki is one of the most convincing crossdressers in the Visual Kei scene's history, and Jasmine You also pulled it off exceptionally well.
  • Epileptic Tree - Due to the lack of information about Jasmine You's death, many fans have attempted to fill in the blanks. Guesses go from fairly sane (AIDS, allergic reaction to an injection) to very unlikely (suicide, cancer, swine flu) to downright ridiculous (Hizaki bumped him off, He's still alive and it's all a publicity stunt).
  • Estrogen Brigade Bait - All the band members are this to some extent, but Kamijo seems to take the crown.
  • Fa Non - There is a rumour that Kamijo was married to a woman named Audrey, who died of cancer. Nobody really knows where this started- it wasn't any sort of official source- but its stuck quite well.
  • Gratuitous English - It's present, but used fairly sparingly, which is probably just as well as Kamijo's pronounciation is, despite his best efforts... not brilliant.
  • Harsher in Hindsight - Jasmine's death carried a nasty irony due to the fact that in the band's backstory, they were supposed to be immortal.
  • High Turnover Rate - Hizaki seems to have this problem with entire bands... before Versailles he was in Crack Brain, Schwardix Marvally and Sulfuric Acid amongst others, before founding the Hizaki Grace Project. He's also played support for Lareine and created a lot of solo material.
  • In Joke - Jasmine You= Alien. People who knew Kamijo from his Lareine days may also laugh over "Oh yes, my name is Christmas tree!"
  • Kansai Regional Accent - Listen to Hizaki speak. You don't have to understand a word of Japanese to notice that he has a strong accent of some description. And seeing as he's from Kyoto... yeah, it's this. XD
  • Large Ham- Kamijo seems to have a lot of fun with his stage persona and often meanders into this territory as a result.
  • Love It Or Hate It - Kamijo's unique vocal style is something of an acquired taste. Not everyone grows to love it.
  • Narm - One of the latest songs, Gekkakou, contains a string of Harry Potter spells as lyrics. Whether the band realised this is- or if they did, realised how odd it would sound- is up for debate.
  • Narm Charm - whenever Kamijo attempts to sing in English, he mispronounces at least something. No one minds- people usually just find it funny.
  • Recycled Premise - Subversion: Versailles' Visuals are basically a new spin on a mash-up of everyone's old bands' concepts.
  • Rock Me Amadeus - They perform a style of metal which has this built into its very foundations.
  • Talky Bookends - The PV for the song 'The Revenant Choir'.
  • The Vampire Chronicles - Kamijo's a big fan.
  • Viewer Gender Confusion - It's rare to guess Hizaki and Jasmine You as men on the first attempt. Teru also gets this occasionally.
  • Widget Series - Well, a Widget band, being a widget in the widget genre of Visual Kei. Let's see- Hizaki resembling a woman, Jasmine You resembling a peacock covered in glitter, French aristocratic vampires (with Kamijo resembling Lestat to an almost creepy level), immortality, a running gag with a toy Elmo... and that's not the half of it..
