Animals may be used to predict earthquakes

Animals at the agricultural ecological park in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province recently took up a new role – to monitor possible ‪#‎earthquakes‬.

The park breeds over a thousand chickens, fish and about 200 live stocks, said its owners, a young couple who have specialized in this field since 2013.

Da Cunhu, the park’s owner, said it is possible to predict an earthquake by monitoring the animal’s abnormal behaviors. Unusual activities such as fish flapping in the water without reason, chicken panicking and refusing to go back to their hen can be considered as possible signs of an earthquake.

However, there’s no solid scientific evidence saying that abnormal animal behaviors can exactly predict an earthquake, said Da, as more research in this field are still relatively immature.
