The story is actually set in 1947, following a long-retired Holmes living in a Sussex village with his housekeeper and rising detective son. But then he finds himself haunted by an unsolved 50-year old case. The movie is awesome, and I think directors did excellent job with it! It may be a bit strange at first and maybe throughout for some but I'm urging you to continue watching and finish the movie. You will definitely be glad you did.
