Breaking News: Murder in My WV Neighborhood

Posted on at

I had planned to write a mini-rant about the telemarketer who woke us up early this morning. But as my day continued, that was the least of it.

After our unrequested wake-up call, neither one of us were happy campers. Hubby and I both have health issues that habitually keep one or the other, sometimes both of us, from getting a good night's sleep.

It was pouring down the rain, making for a gloomy morning, and I feel like I'm catching a cold. However, I needed to go to the lab for blood drawn, and for the first time in a long time, the phlebotomy tech messed up and I left with a sore, bruised lump on my inner arm.

We needed groceries, so after the lab, off to the store we went. It was there that I first heard about the police chase, just bits and pieces. As I was leaving, I overheard someone mentioning "I-68", "Cheat Lake", and "murders". It so happens that we live .8 of a mile off I-68, so we travel it every time we drive to town. We live in the Cheat Lake area.

On the way home, via I-68, we saw quite a few State Police cars parked on the side and in the medians. The radio stations weren't mentioning anything unusual, but I just wanted to get home and find out what was happening.

There was a message on our answering machine from our daughter who works in a law office. She filled us in and wanted to be sure we were safe, because apparently there was a crazed gunman on a rampage in our area who had already killed 4 people. Last update was that another person was also shot and in critical condition.

This happened late this morning and it is now near 5:00 p.m. The local news says the search for the killer, Jody Hunt, who owns J&J Towing in Westover, is still on, although some social sites have been saying otherwise. We have been advised to stay off the roads and in our homes. Two of the shootings took place just a few miles from our home.

ABC recently picked up on this, it's being followed on fb and Twitter, and Yahoo news is also giving updates. Local tv stations WBOY and WDTV are also updating their web sites. Jody Hunt also posted a chilling message on fb this morning. Not sure if it's still there.

The reason being given for this murder spree? A love triangle.

It's been a harrowing day, folks. Not a great start to December. See you tomorrow.
