Catching an Illness Whilst Abroad

Posted on at

I caught a chest infection whilst I was on holiday in Cyprus. It was unfortunate that I got ill whilst I was over there. Have you ever caught an illness whilst being on holiday abroad?

On my fifth day there (Sunday), I started to cough and felt unwell. I felt hot and achy along with not being able to breathe properly, as I was trying to cough something out of me. I got really worried that I had caught a deadly virus.

By that night, I was really ill and could not breathe very well. The next day in the morning (Monday), I went to the local pharmacy in Peyia village and she advised me to see a doctor, so I went to see the local one in the village. I was told that I had a chest infection, so they gave me some cough syrup, which was, also, an expectorant medicine called Noradran. It truly did do the trick at the time and it helped me not to cough so much. It saved me really, as I had to travel back the next day (Tuesday) to the UK. The medicine helped me to function and it, also, helped me to have a rest from coughing.

When I got back to the UK though, I got worse. I had to go see my doctor yesterday (Sunday), as I have been ill for 8 days now. The doctor said I had caught a nasty chest infection virus whilst I was away, so she prescribed me some strong antibiotics called Clarithromycine 500mg, which are a stronger antibiotic for chest infections. The only problem is that I am on Simvastatin medication for cholesterol. I have been told I cannot take my cholesterol tablets for seven days until I have finished the antibiotics, because these antibiotics cannot be taken with Simvastatin. Have you ever taken these antibiotics before?

Oh well, I am just hoping that I will start to feel better very soon, because I hate coughing all the time.
