The win over Real Madrid and what it means for the Liga title chase was splashed over sports pages worldwide.

p>The Clásico is always the focus of the world media’s attention. Both in general interest and specialised sports press, there was widespread agreement. Barça’s 2-1 win has put them in an ideal position to go on and claim the championship. The impact of the the blaugranes' victory was felt way beyond the national borders, with digital media from all around the planet reporting on the outcome of an action-packed encounter. In the United States, the prestigious New York Times highlighted Luis Suárez's contribution to what they called a "pulsating match."


In the United Kingdom, The Guardian also made a point of earmarking the Uruguayan's contribution, opining that "Luis Suárez embodies Barcelona’s evolution in victory against Real Madrid."

 

In the rest of Europe Italian sportspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport reflected on Barça's four point lead at the top of the table following their victory over Real Madrid with the headline, "Barça ecstasy: Clásico and bigger lead - Suárez blows over Real Madrid." Whilst in France, that well respected bastion on sports journlalism L'Équipe also lead with the blaugranes putting daylight between themselves and their eternal rivals thanks to the win at Camp Nou with the headline, "Barça make a break."

 

The Catalan papers stressed the fact that Barcelona are now four points clear of their rivals, while the Madrid dailies lamented the many wasted opportunities for the visitors. Madrid based As ran with the headline “They forgave and paid the price”, while its local rival Marca bemoaned “So much forgiven...” The mood was different in Catalonia’s Mundo Deportivo, which hailed “Barç+4”, Sport with its proclamation of “Madrid hit like a champion” and L’Esportiu that spoke of how a “Leader strikes.”
