ÉCU’s Partner – International Film Festival Sax (FICS)

The International Film Festival Sax (FICS) is a young and interesting festival held throughout the month of July in the picturesque town of Sax, near the coast and located in the center of the province of Alicante (Valencia Community ), Spain. The festival was created in July 2005 from the Association of Cinematographic and Audiovisual Sax (ACAS) and the idea of the founder of the association and the local young filmmaker Miguel Herrero Herrero. All activities and projections are made at night, outdoors and free of charge by squares, museums and cafe-theater here. Besides having with the official internationally competitive short film for any format and type: fiction, animation or documentary, FICS is the only festival in Spain that has a film award Historical Film and one of the few that has a section noncompetitive feature film. The new directors presented to the public on its draft feature film premiere or production of his first feature film with the promotion of the festival.

Among those reported include the controversial and internationally awarded film Myna has gone of Sadrac Gonzalez and Sonia Escolano and the crowdfunding film in production Operasiones Espesiales of Paco Soto, a comedy police action in the spanish style. Since the festival has honored film personalities as the actor Aldo Sanbrell, with over 200 feature films. Furthermore, despite having a modest budget are all kinds of film activities: BSO concert with visual montage, cinematographic exhibitions (posters, films restored), formation (film critical, production, etc.), Editions of books (The best Spanish short films), special screenings (film prohibited), meetings, etc.


During the festival is held the Gathering of Filmmakers. Tens of directors gather in Sax to meet and talk about movies as well as receive free training by industry professionals as recognized were: Elsa Martinez, director of Ciudad de la Luz studies and President of the Spain Film Commission and Antonio Sempere, known critic film and writer, author of over 20 books on cinema. The festival has received over 2,000 short films from around the world in its sixth edition. More than 50 organizations and companies support the FICS, including Ciudad de la Luz, the movie studios and large modern Europe, and universities like the University Miguel Hernández of Elche. Furthermore, the FICS is doing in their latest editions exchanges with other festivals around the world such as the International ndependent Film Festival of Villa de Leyva (Colombia) and the ÉCU – The European Independent Film Festival.
