Developing Countries: hubs for Social Entrepreneurship by Isaac Mensah

Posted on at

I am frankly reinvigorated by Schumpeter blog in in the July 20th issue of the Economist entitled: True Entrepreneurs Find worth in the Worthless and Possibility in the impossible. Very often I see many in the developing world disenchanted and disfranchised, waiting and hoping to go to the West for a better life or for the West to bring relief of some forms to their plights. Meanwhile they spend money a lot of money buying the latest gadgets that is beyond their means. As a result many are caught up in the mentality of “get rich or die trying” or simply just dreaming of having plenty of money without any hard work. This type of mindset disengages youths, disintegrates communities and the country as a whole. I like the article because instead of looking elsewhere for the solution to improve local, social and economy status like that of the West, the article encourages social entrepreneurship within one’s own community and country with their available resources and talents. Some economists believe that the Western economies have reached its pinnacle, therefore they have turned attention to the people of developing world who are still curious about so many things life has to offers. As they say: “the abundance of goods diminishes its enjoyment” The West has had this moment for centuries. Now the emerging market is rapidly grappling toward that abundance!

The Examer Company Limited is echoing that same feeling of change by embracing social entrepreneurship in the field of Writing and Filmmaking. The Examer Company Ltd encourages young students to become more effective user and entrepreneurs while they are still in school and before they reach the College age.
