Eyeball Spaghetti and Fun Food Friday

Good morning, can you believe it’s Friday again?! This last week or so has passed in a blur of nasty stomach bugs for everyone in our little family, one after the other, but thankfully we’re all coming out of it now and starting to feel fit and well again.  On a more positive note, Friday means Fun Food Friday, so welcome to another of my fun food linkies!  As usual, you’ll find the linky at the bottom of today’s post, so if you’ve written any foodie posts, whether it be toddler meals, creative cakes, lovely lunches or a yummy recipe you’ve blogged, do feel free to join in and add your link!  Over the course of the week, I try to comment on and tweet every post that’s linked up and I pin them all to my special Fun Food Friday Pinterest board too.

Today’s fun food is a Halloween themed dinner that I made for Small Child and Small Baby recently.  One of the pitfalls of being a blogger’s child is that you sometimes get ideas tested on you far in advance of the event they are meant for, and so it has been with Halloween this year! Thankfully Small Child was a willing tester for my eyeball spaghetti, even if it was a few weeks early for Halloween! I have promised to make him the same meal again nearer to the event so he doesn’t miss out, and he was very happy with that!

You could use any bolognese recipe for the eyeball spaghetti, but I used my own recipe, made in the slow cooker with plenty of hidden veggies (I’ll get round to sharing the recipe with you one of these days!).  To make the eyeballs, simply cut mozzarella pearls in half (you can buy mozzarella pearls ready shaped in most large supermarkets) and dot with an edible marker pen.  Serve up your spaghetti and sauce and nestle the ‘eyeballs’ into it, yum!

Even Small Baby had his own chopped up version – he giggled and babbled to it before polishing it off without a second thought (he loves his spaghetti bolognese!).

A Halloween dinner needs a suitable Halloween dessert of course, so I served up ‘worms and mud’ for pudding.  This was another simple but effective recipe – to make, I crushed up a couple of bourbon biscuits, sprinkled them over the top of a bowl of natural yoghurt and added jelly worms.  Not the healthiest of foods of course, but we all need a treat every now and again and at least they got a good portion of dairy in there! Once again Small Baby had his own version, but without the worms.

Small Child & Small Baby thoroughly enjoyed their early Halloween dinners and I really enjoyed making them – it was so simple to add a little extra fun and it was clearly greatly appreciated, particularly by Small Child.  I look forward to enjoying a bowl of eyeball spaghetti again with them in the not to distant future!

Now it’s your turn to share! Have you been making any fun food recently? Please link up your foodie posts below and share the inspiration around. You can also link up InstagramFacebook or Twitter pictures if you don’t have a blog of your own.
