Fact and Tradition :)

Posted on at

I have never been to a wedding where the bride stands to the right of the groom and, I’ve been to more than my fair share of weddings. I feel like my right side is my more preferable side, so on my wedding day, I’d like to stand on the right side of my groom if I ever get married. Would this be allowed?

The fact is that this tradition goes back to the old days where marriage was by “capture” this means that the groom needed his right hand, which is his fighting hand, the hand he used to hold his sword, free just incase he would ever need to defend his bride from other men that were interested in her and would object to the marriage to try to steal her away. That is an awesome back story.

Today, many brides still stand on that side because simply put, they don’t put too much thought into it. You can stand on whichever side you would like to stand on. Just be sure that if you are having a religious ceremony, you okay it with whomever is marrying you and your groom.
