Film Society will screen documentary ‘He Named Me Malala’

 
The Louisiana Film Society will screen "He Named Me Malala," a documentary about Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Malala Yousafzai, at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, at Cinemark Perkins Rowe. Admission is free, but registration is required. Registration is available online.At 15, Yousafzai was severely wounded in her native Pakistan by the Taliban. She was returning home on a school bus in the Swat Valley. The attack followed her outspoken advocacy for the education of girls.

 

The film premiered at the Telluride Film Festival on September 4, 2015, and received a theatrical release in the United States on October 2. On June 18, 2015, National Geographic announced they had acquired broadcasting rights to the film and will air the film in 171 countries in 45 languages.A free curriculum guide for secondary school classes and a discussion guide for college classes are available in English and will be translated into other languages.
