Findings of Mina stampede probe to be made public: Saudi ambassasdor

Ambassador says its not in interest of truth to listen to malicious rumors, speculations by persons who only aim at misleading public opinion

ISLAMABAD - Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Pakistan Abdullah M al-Zahrani on Friday said findings of probe into Mina stampede would be made public.

Talking to Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani, the Saudi envoy informed that a probe into Mina tragedy had been ordered and “its findings would be made public.” The Saudi ambassador called on the Senate chairman on Friday in the Parliament House. “The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques has ordered all-inclusive probe of the matter and results would be announced once completed,” he told Senate chairman while expressing his heart-felt condolences for those martyred in Mina stampede during the Haj, said a statement of the embassy.

The stampede at Mina had led to martyrdom of 769 pilgrims from different nationalities including over 40 Pakistani nationals. The ambassador prayed to rest the departed souls in eternal peace and grant courage and forbearance to families to endure this loss. He also prayed for early recovery of the injured. During the meeting they reviewed bilateral relations and expressed satisfaction about improvement of these strong brotherly relations.

The ambassador said it was not in the interest of the truth, to listen to the malicious rumors and speculations by persons who are not aware of facts and only aim at misleading the public opinion. He told Senate Chairman Rabbani about the facilities provided by Saudi Arabia for smooth performance of Hajj by all pilgrims in the previous years and this year. “These countless efforts cannot be depreciated by those who want to exploit this incidence for political purposes.”

He reiterated that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has provided all facilities to the governments of relevant countries to identify their martyrs and assure the well-being of injured.
