A new study out of the University of California at Santa Cruz found a high incidence of arrhythmias in marine mammals while the animals were performing deep dives.
The research, just published in the journal Nature Communications, focused on bottlenose dolphins and Weddell seals, and the paper's findings suggest that there are distinct cardiac challenges faced by animals holding their breath while exercising.
