How frustrating is an Android tab without Playstore???

Posted on at

It was a very long day today, Saturday. and we got home pretty late from an almost never ending traffic jam in Espana Boulevard, here in Metro Manila. my kids and I were very excited to go home, because finally, after a few months of fighting over their iPad, I finally got them another tablet. A Coby Kyros Mid 3072. Its not really that high tech. It runs an Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.4 Operating system with 4gb internal storage and 2gb ram. it was pretty cheap, and good enough to keep my little ones busy when I have to work.

So right after eating dinner, we were excited to try out this new gadget. everyone was waiting for me to install new apps from the Google Playstore. all eyes on me, the children were. anticipating.

So while messing around for a few minutes, checking out the buttons and wallpapers,
I was ready to download some apps. to my surprise, this tablet. does. not. have. a. playstore!!!

Can you imagine what my childrens' reactions were?! the kids actuallyl thought this was broken, because we couldn't download anything. So as the supermom, trying to save the day, I am not l9etting my kids go to bed thinking that this was an epic failure.
So thanks to my bestfriend google, who's always there when I need him, this is what I found, on how to root, and install gapps (google applications software?) on your device.

1. First and foremost, download the gapps file here: http://d-h.st/6JO
I downloaded this via pc, transfered to my memory card, and into my phone.

2. After downloading, place it at the root of your device (SD CARD), and rename the file into update.zip.

3. After saving the file, go to your device's settings, backup and reset, and then click on Recovery mode. this will reboot your device and bring you to the recovery screen, where you have the options to Factory data reset, wipe cache, and install update from external sd card.

4. Click on Install update from external memory. you will see that the files are now downloading into the device. it will tell you when the process has completed and when it does,

5. Click reboot system now.

After the process, taaadaaa!!! your Android tablet is now ready for download from the google playstore!!!

So am I a supermom or what?! I saved the day :)
