Hurricane Sandy Rips Through East Coast!

Bouncer Chronicles wants to extend its prayers and wishes to all the people affected by the devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy. Parts of the New York metropolitan area look like an apocalyptic wasteland. Lower Manhattan, the South shore of Long Island and most of the New Jersey coastline sustained catastrophic damage.

Economic damage from the storm could cost the region a staggering 10 to 20 billion dollars in property damage and another 10 billion in lost business. Sandy might just be the costliest natural disaster in the United States on record!

A total of 660,000 Con Ed customers still remain without power in the Big Apple. Another 183,000 remain without electricity in Westchester County. 90 percent of Long Island’s population is still in the dark! There are 35 local deaths from the storm and that number is expected to rise as debris is cleared and the floodwaters recede.

Devastating fires fueled by Sandy’s 80 MPH winds ripped through Breezy Point, Queens that destroyed over 100 houses and damaged dozens of others. Officials suspect an electrical fire quickly spread out of control while firefighters had a difficult time putting it out due to floodwaters and high winds in the area.

Sandy caused widespread damage all across New Jersey. Some coastal communities still remain under water. In Seaside Heights, the storm surge washed away an amusement park which was located on a pier extending into the ocean! The 2 million people living in the Garden State could remain without power well into next week. “The winds and storm surge left absolute devastation as train stations flooded, uprooted trees blocked streets and homes were swept off their foundation,” said Chris Christie, governor of NJ.

Gasoline is also affected by Sandy. Pumps ran dry across the tri-state area. Power outages knocked out gasoline pumps causing panicked people to line up in their cars for hours to fill their tanks.
