When one thinks about bacteria, the first thing that comes in mind is disease. And it’s true, a bacterial infection can make you fall sick but not all bacteria are bad.

There are many bacterias in our planet which occur everywhere and are also found in radioactive waste.

An estimation made by scientists, if we combine all the bacteria present on the earth and on the other hand combine all the plants and animals, the mass of the bacterias will be greater than the mass of plants and animals even when put together. Yet one is unable to see bacteria in naked eye. There are numerous bacterias that has not been classified yet. And the bacteria that are classified are only because they make people sick.

Some bacteria show interesting characteristics. One of such bacteria is Magnetospirillium Magneticum. This particular bacteria has the ability to intake iron and convert it into magnetite. Magnetite is magnetic in nature and among all the naturally existing minerals on earth; magnetite is most magnetic in nature. The bacteria store the magnetite and use it in aligning with the magnetic field of the earth and use it as a navigation system.

It’s because of certain bacterias characteristic that a 16 year old school boy used one fifth ounce of bacteria to generate voltage of AA battery according to the law of electromagnetic induction.

This is not exactly a solution to for the world’s power problems but these numerous amounts of bacteria can be a help in certain way.
