Movie Review: A Werewolf Boy.

Posted on at

One night a teenager named Kim Sun-yi hears noises outside. After trying to wake up her sister, Sun-yi goes outside with a garden spade. She walks slowly through what looks like a barn. It has kennel cages on both sides that apparently held animals at one time. All the kennel doors are open. She opens up the back door to see a teenage boy crawling toward her on his hands and knees. She screams and the boy growls. He knocks her down and runs by her to the open door. Then he runs away. Her sister and mom come out and help her into the house. The boy is hiding nearby while watching them.

The next day they see the boy again. They try to scare him away with a broom, but he stays still. He crawls a few steps toward them and stops. They offer him a potato. He cautiously crawls toward the potato and gobbles it up like he is starving. They offer him the rest of the potatoes and he gobbles them up.

Thus begins the movie 'A Werewolf Boy.' The boy has lived in the wild and cannot speak or read. He is totally uncivilized. Kim Sun-yi becomes his friend and starts teaching him. As the movie progresses they learn that when he gets angry, he morphs into a wolf-like creature. And this is where the trouble starts. Some want to kill him. But Kim Sun-yi is very fond of him and wants to save him.

This movie is one of the very best werewolf movies I have ever watched. The acting is good and the story had many comical moments It does not drag. It moves along at moderate pace. The dialogue is Korean with English subtitles. This is not a traditional werewolf movie. In traditional werewolf movies, the person turns into a werewolf during a full moon.

Needless to say, I enjoyed watching this movie and highly recommend it. It is a fantasy and a melodrama. I don't think it would scare children ten years or older, but younger children should be accompanied by adults when watching this movie. Although there is some gore in the movie, I would not rate it as a horror movie. My best advice is to watch it and then decide if you want your kids to watch it.
