Arguably the best compact off-roader on the market, the X-Trail is good to drive both on the road as well as off it. There's a decent range of trim levels and engines, while the cars are generally well built. However, if turbodiesel examples aren't serviced on the button, things can get very costly, with engine or turbo failures likely - so make sure the service book is fully stamped before buying.
