One of the prized possessions of Delhi: The Red Fort

Delhi has a wide array of tourist destinations. People visit the capital city from all over the world, and this is because of its rich history and culture. Over the time, Delhi was ruled by various dynasties and rules, and these rules created some marvelous architectural masterpieces.  Among these epic masterpieces is the Lal Quilla or the Red Fort. This massive fort was built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan and was a monument of political as well as historic significance. It took ten long years to finish the construction of this fort.

Since its inception, this fort has maintained its significance in the politics of India. Every year, occasions such as Republic Day and Independence Day is celebrated on this fort with the presence of President and Prime Minister.

This fort is built entirely with red sand stone; it covers an area of around two km, and is semi-octagonal in shape. The longest wall of the red fort faces the Yamuna River in the east and the town in west.

The artwork of the Red fort displays a find and superior blend of Indian, European and Persian art. You could either use the Lahore Gate or Delhi Gate to enter this formidable fort. In simply put words, the Red fort exhibits the glorious history of India.
