Organ donation from a hero

At 4:30 on Aug. 28, people crowed outside of the ICU of Zhangjiajie Hospital. When the doctor unplugged hero Mei Xiong's oxygen hose, everyone at the scene broke into tears.

On Aug. 12, soldier Mei Xiong stationed in a navy unit in Zhangjiajie happened at the scene where a tourist bus rolled over on a highway. To rescue people from the bus, Mei got severely hit. After several day of resuscitating, he still remained in a coma and his situation kept going worse.

On Aug. 27, Mei's family voluntarily contacted Red Cross of Hunan Province, decided to stop Mei's medical treatment and donate his functional organs.

After evaluation, Mei Xiong's liver and kidney were qualified for donation. When he was in the operation room for organ removal, his sisters, wife, and 4-month-old child were all waiting in the hallway, crying.

"If my brother knew he could save more people, I believe he will rest in peace," said Mei's sister. Mei's battalion chief Wang Haitao prepared a new set of uniform for Mei, he told journalists that Mei Xiong will always be their pride.
