Production Of Electricity Through Wind Mills  

 

A windmill is a machine that produces  energy and also pumps water.

History

The world first windmill was invented by Heron of Alexandria in the 1st Century (AD) which powered an organ (musical instrument).

The first practical windmill was invented  by the Persians in the 9th Century.

Structure

It consists of three larger and wider fans, blades which catch the wind.

 It is mainly composed of iron or wood.

Producing Electricity

 It only works when there is a wind blowing in that area, it helps to rotate the fan/blades which in turn run the generator and then it produces energy which is stored and then supply to many houses.

 

We need electricity for many purposes like household usage and required for office work.

There are many kinds of wind mills and used for many purposes as well.

  • Hollow post windmills
  • Tower mills
  • Smock mills
  • Grain mills
  • Grist mills

 

Uses

  • In ancient time windmill is just used to make flour.
  • Now may countries used windmill and producing a lot of energy like electricity from generators.
  • Grist mills are used to grind the flour
  • Grist mills are used is modern farms
  • Grain mills are used to push water out of the ground then people drink.
  • Renewable
  • Do not cause any pollution
  • Free of cost means no need to pay because the wind blowing is a natural phenomena.
