Romania supports the creation of the European Energy Union, President says Posted on 16 April 2015 at 04:05 Romania supports the creation of the Energy Union, which will bring great benefit to all EU Member States, said Romanian President Klaus Iohannis on Thursday, March 19, before his departure to Brussels. “The priorities to be considered are the creation of a real internal market in the energy sector, a more efficient use of indigenous energy resources, the diversification of energy sources and routes, and infrastructure development enabling better connections between EU Member States,” said Iohannis. He said that Romania supports the creation of the Energy Union based on the five dimensions proposed by the European Commission: energy security, internal energy market, energy efficiency, environmental protection and research, innovation and competitiveness in the field. Iohannis will be in Brussels on March 19 and March 20, where he will participate at the spring meeting of the European Council.
