Rumi's Daughter review

MY PERSONAL REFLECTION

In my opinion this book is especially unique with its simple writing style, and impressive imagery. It is beautifully written, but strange. I found the ending unexpected and unsatisfying but that may be me. The life beginning of Kimya is narrated skillfully and it is worth attention catching. Moreover the first encounter of Shams Tabriaz and Kimya was one of the most perfectly written scenes of the novel. The novel also threw light on the ignorance of gender differences in search of knowledge and in search of meaning of life.

Rumi's Daughter does not quite fit in as classics only but can also serve as a quiet oasis of calmness in these days of restlessness, of disquiet and mind-shattering violence. The book is of wisdom in my opinion and can serve as a master piece of mysticism and Sufism. I am a little bit confused and unsatisfied by the end of novel (kimyas death and shams disappearance) but still I would like to recommend this book to those who are really interested in Sufi themes.

To the end of my review about this book I would like to add my favorite lines from this book.

Yesterday I was clever

So I wanted to change the world.

Today I am wise,

So I am changing myself.
