Six development projects of the Murree have been completed and speedy work on the remaining four projects is going on for early completion in line with the development vision of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif.
This was informed at a high-level briefing chaired by the Prime Minister at Murree today.
Speaking on the occasion the Prime Minister directed to remove all the bottlenecks and impediments in the progress of remaining projects keeping the pace of work on fast track so that the people of Murree and tourists from all over the country enjoy best facilities at this beautiful resort of our country.
The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction over the good work but directed that no laxity should be witnessed in the development and up-gradation of restoration of old grandeur of the Murree.
The Prime Minister said that the government is providing all necessary resources to restore the lost glory of Murree which is a destination of choice for domestic tourists.
The Prime Minister directed that all schemes should be completed within the stipulated timeframe to provide maximum benefit to the people of the area at the earliest.
The six completed projects include Up-gradation of General bus stand; Modernization of sanitation and waste management system; Rehabilitation of roads; Bansra Gali Forest Park; Water supply schemes and Anti-encroachment drive.
The projects under way include Restoration of GPO to its original shape; Murree Arts Council Cinema; Improvement in traffic management system and Beautification and horticulture.
The meeting was informed that water supply to Murree has been increased by 0.65 million gallons per day taking the daily supply to 1.9 million gallons. Water metering system is being introduced in city. Supply lines have been upgraded due to which leakages and theft has been eliminated.
The Prime Minister directed that water supplied to the city should be properly treated and free of germs and pollutants.
The Prime Minister was also given presentation on bulk water supply scheme which aims at catering city's needs with a 2025 perspective, under which water would be pumped from river Jhelum to meet the needs of Murree.
The meeting was further briefed on the proposed Islamabad-Murree-Muzaffarabad railway line and apprised of possible route options. This railway would be of strategic importance providing link between Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The briefing apprised the Prime Minister about the latest status of the three routes of cable cars in Murree which would ease the traffic pressure in the main city as the people will get down at the base station and move to the city through cable cars.
The briefing also included the proposal for development of Brazilian Embassy site as an alternative attraction to the Mall road.
The meeting was given a detailed presentation on the project to upgrade and beautify the Mall Road by uplifting and beautification of historical buildings located along its length.
The Prime Minister issued instructions on each project and directed that quality and standard of the projects should be of high level and in accordance with environmental requirements of mountainous area.
Secretary Railways updated the Prime Minister on findings of yesterday's tragic incident that happened near Gujranwala.
Participants of the meeting included Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Mr. Pervaiz Rasheed; Minister for Petroleum, Mr. Shahid Khaqan Abbasi; Special Assistant to PM on Political Affairs, Dr. Asif Kirmani; Provincial Minister Raja Ishfaq Sarwar and MNA Mr. Hamza Shahbaz, Chairman Murree Development Steering Committee along with senior federal and provincial government officials.
