Sonic Electric Tooth Brushes

Posted on at

A sonic electric toothbrush can help prevent many dental problems such as tooth decay, cavities, gum disease and bad breath. Unfortunately most of us don't do a very good job of home dental care. Using a sonic electric toothbrush can correct many of the mistakes we make, such as applying too much pressure or simply not brushing long enough I'm going to go through some of the more important things to look for when purchasing a sonic electric toothbrush.

Why should I get a sonic electric toothbrush?

The advantage of a sonic electric toothbrush is simple. A regular electric toothbrush has bristles that oscillate at about 7500 rpm. The bristles on a sonic electric toothbrush oscillate at 30,000 rpm or more. This higher speed causes the fluids around the teeth to oscillate as well, cleaning up to 1/8th of an inch away from the sonic electric toothbrush. This allows you to clean BETWEEN your teeth and BELOW the gum line!

What are some important features to look for in a sonic electric toothbrush?

Timer: Most of us don't brush long enough. Some sonic electric toothbrushes have a 2-3 minute timer or even a 30 second timer which will signal you to move on to the next quadrant of your mount.

Pressure sensor: Some of brush too hard, which causes excessive enamel wear on our teeth. A sonic electric toothbrush with a pressure sensor will have an alarm or even turn off if we push too hard.

Adjustable power setting: Obviously the most effective setting is high. The lower power settings on a sonic electric toothbrush are for when you are just starting out and need to get used to the sensation. For me, the full power setting was unbearable when I was just starting out with my sonic electric toothbrush.

Other features to look for in a sonic electric toothbrush

Make sure the sonic electric toothbrush has replaceable brush heads. They wear out in 3-6 months and will need to be replaced.

It's also nice to have different brush sizes available for your sonic electric toothbrush. This is great for kids.

Color coded brush heads are a nice feature also if more than one person will be using the sonic electric toothbrush,

If space permits choose a sonic electric toothbrush with a large enough base to store all the brush heads. Storing them on the sink will just spread germs.

And finally make sure the sonic electric toothbrush has a great warranty. Remember the unit is mechanical and also will be stored in a damp environment.
