The BBL of Mindanao

Posted on at

This is a very heartbreaking news for me as a resident of Mindanao, particularly as an Iliganon.  I was born in this city, I went to different places but still my feet bring me back to the place where I was born as my hometown,  as others says as well as my expression goes, 'I LOVE MY OWN NATIVE LAND'.

This is about the BANGSAMORO BASIC LAW, commonly known as BBL.  May 20, 2015 news shocked me and the other Christians living on my native land regarding the approval of becoming the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region.  Though we all know that this was an issue of politics, but sometimes, those who voted on the implementing of separating the Regions involved on the aforementioned law think a million times on the incoming result to the people living in these areas?  I think the answer is a big NO.  Why?  Because the are not living in the area affected by this issue.  They issued that promoting this BBL will bring peace to Mindanao and security to the people.  Indeed it will be, for their own race, but what about the ethnic groups in the area?  What about the preservation of the tribes on the affected area?  What about the future of their children?  What about the Christians?  Do we have still the freedom to preach?  To believe our own God?  To pray to our own God?  For now we have, but what about in the coming years?  What about the generation behind us?

Yes, my land is not included in the so-called Bangsamoro Region, but, we traveled 30 minutes to reach Marawi, and my place is almost 80% were their race, what do you think would happen?  I do respect their beliefs.  Only I am afraid not for myself, but for the next generation.

Way back before,  our  place was prosperous.  We supply the steel all around Philippines and sometimes exported to other countries.  Because of the company National Steel Corporation.  Many people from different places came to visit our beautiful place.  Because the place was safe and you are secured to visit.  But now, what happen to us?  Man killing man.  Kidnapping for ransom.  Raped.  Bombing.  When you go to the city, you have to double your care.  And when you travel to other places such as in Visayas or somewhere in Luzon, once you meet someone and asked you where you came from, of course you tell them that you came from one of the places here in Mindanao.  Upon hearing the word Mindanao, they avoid you.  It seems that you have a virus that will transmit to others.  Sometimes, it's hurting to know the reasons.

Afar from this, I just wish to bring back the old times.  And that the incoming generation will embrace the abundance of security and safety of those old times.  But since, the water in the river passes once and will not flow back again to the same area of the river,  so I put everything to the Mighty Hand of God.
