The LEGO Movie Review

Posted on at

If I had to name the toy that I mostly used in my childhood, that would be a set of LEGO pieces, so when I heard about this movie I was so excited!

Then I watched the trailer. My feelings towards the movie went down, it seemed the classic franchise exploitation with not too many interesting elements in it. Then I heard the song, "Everything is awesome". Didn´t like it either.

But when the movie opened this friday and I went with my little cousins to watch it, everything changed! What an INCREDIBLE movie!

I don´t want to spoil anything to you because one of the main reasons you can enjoy this movie is how well thought it is, what a lovely plot and story. Everything is there for a reason. Even the horrible song has a meaning in it!

It´s an incredibly visual movie, very original (the way they depicted the sea, bubbles, the smoke and explosions is so great), and there are so many great characters in it! The style of the animation is the stop motion technique and it fits so well with the story.

Also, the message behind the plot is a very good one.

Michelangelo Buonarotti, Michelangelo the Ninja Turtle, Robin Hood,... so many great characters!

What I also loved is that the whole movie experience is so close to what I felt when I opened a new lego toy and started constructing and linking the pieces together. There are so many blinks to lego lovers (for example, along the movie you can identify so many old pieces from old legos)!

I think that maybe I enjoyed more the film than my cousins, because many of the details are focused to adults than to the youngest audiences, like the blinks I wrote about. But they laughed a lot and it´s a very colorful movie with many jokes in it.

My rating for this film is a 9/10. It´s solid, beautifully shot, visually stunning, creative, innovative (it skips really well the possible comparisons to Toy Story), fresh and with a good message for the audience. I´m already waiting  for the second part, because it´s doing so well in the box office!
