The World's Most Expensive Desserts

Posted on at

The sweeter the berry, the darker the juice, but the more gold and diamonds you put on your favorite dessert then the more likely it is to become one of the world's most expensive desserts. It used to be that a breath taking dessert just required your standard flour, milk and eggs and a coat of frosting, but now a pastry just isn't a mind-blowing pastry apparently if it isn't lined with edible gold leaves and accompanied by diamonds. Here's a look at some of the most pricey confections around!

Strawberries Arnaud

This New Orleans delight can be found in the French Quarter and enjoyed for just $1.4 million. Marinated in a pot and served with mint and cream, this Arnaud desert is unbelievably simple but it's real worth comes from the small detail that this ridiculously expensive treat comes topped with a 4.7 carat pink diamond ring said to once belong to English financier, Ernest Cassel.

Frozen Hot Chocolate

While this frozen hot decadent treat might not be nearly as expensive as the Strawberries Arnaud, at $25,000 it certainly is up there. Served at the popular desert establishment Serendipity in New York, this chocolate sundae is made up of 24 different types of cocoa, topped with 23-karat gold and eaten with a gold, diamond-encrusted spoon.

Diamond Christmas Fruit Cake

Six months of planning, one month of baking and 223 diamonds make this amazing two layer hexagonal cake a whopping $1.7 million. Pastry chef Jeong Hong-yong' creation isn't just one of the most expensive desserts in the world, but it's also a work of art and was also on display at the Takashimaya Department Store 'Diamond: Natue' Miracle' exhibition.

Platinum Cake

It's not everyday that you see platinum being incorporated into cakes, but Japanese pastry chef Nobue Ikara wanted to change that. This cake, meant to encourage women to wear platinum jewelry, is worth up to $130,000 and is decorated in platinum flakes, necklaces, pins and pendants.

Fortress Stilt Fisherman Indulgence

This Italian cassata found in Sri Lanka is a nod to Sri Lanka's fisherman history and features an 80 carat aquamarine stone that makes this delicacy $14,500. The cassata is composed of a chocolate hand crafted stilt and a fisherman connected to a parfait of edible gold leaf, Irish cream and champagne base.

The Absurdity Sundae

Shelling out $60,000 might be a little steep and even absurd for this Mt. Kilimanjaro sundae but, luckily you'll get to enjoy more than just a cold sweet treat atop of Africa's tallest peak. For the price you get a first class ticket to Tanzania, a stay at a five-star hotel, a tour guide accompanied climb and a t-shirt to boot.

Golden Cannoli

source

This $26,000 cannoli cake is a gilded take on the Italian sweet treat that comes filled with whipped ricotta cheese mixed with candied lemons. The pricey ingredient though is the Italian diamond studded necklace that comes with the cannoli. Personally, I'm good with a classic NYC cannoli, not diamond necklace necessary.

So what do you think? How much would you spend on a dessert?
